Life Education 22.11.24

Dear Families

Another week has flown by and the children are thriving in their learning. It is also wonderful on my daily walk-arounds to see so many happy faces and smiles from children and staff.

A special welcome to Steve Foster, our new Site Supervisor, who joined us at the beginning of this term. We are thrilled to welcome Steve to our school family and as a previous Site Supervisor, Fire Officer and Health and Safety manager for Homebase he comes with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Please say” ‘Hello,’ to Steve when you see him manning our school gate every morning!

Special Visitor to Year 6

At the start of this week our Year 6 children had a special Teams call with Chris Mason, who is an English journalist and has been the Political Editor of BBC News since 2022. They had the opportunity to ask him questions and learn all about life as a journalist! Another amazing opportunity for children to consider their future careers and opportunities out there for them whilst also learning more about the world in which they live.

Fun fact – His parents were primary school teachers!

Life Education and SCARF workshops

This week saw the return of our Life Education Tent where children from across the school got to visit the tent to learn valuable life skills. The tent is a portable pop-up classroom that offers an exciting, stimulating and memorable environment for children to experience Educator-led workshops. Inside Life Space children have an enriching, immersive experience in an environment that includes lighting effects, large screen, technology to help them look inside the human body and find out how it works, immersive and – of course – Harold, the giraffe puppet and his friends.

It is wonderful to have experiences such as these to build on our new PSHE curriculum which we launched this year.

House Assembly

Today saw us deliver our termly House Assembly alongside our newly appointed House Captains. This assembly is always a favourite of ours where we get together to discuss all of the things coming up over the term. We are looking forward to decorating Christmas trees together in the near future. Please encourage your child to wear their house badge. A little reminder of which teachers lead our Houses:

  • Whittlewood – Mrs Kelly
  • Everdon – Mrs Halsall and Mrs Linnell
  • Harleston- Mrs New
  • Salcey – Miss Stryjek

Meet our House Captains

We are really pleased to share that these children have been selected to represent their House as House Captain. They will be involved in organising and overseeing such events and representing the school.

E-safety Parent Session 27th November 2024

Have you signed up for our E-safety Parents’ Evening yet? This is a really important and valuable information session led by Simon Aston on how to keep your child safe online. Sadly, so many safeguarding and friendship issues happen online and I cannot encourage you enough to attend. Please click this link to sign up.

Dates to be aware of…

Please take note of our Christmas even dates on the bauble poster within this newsletter and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask myself, the school office or your class teacher.

Happy weekend everyone and a little reminder that next Wednesday 27th from 08:45-9:15 is our second Walk in Wednesday with a Christmas theme. Please do come along if you are able to but don’t worry if you can’t as we always make sure that your child will be involved and included in all activities.
