Dear Families
I hope that you have all had a lovely week – we certainly have here at EHPS.
A few reminders:
- Please only use the car park if you have a parking pass or blue badge
- Please be considerate when driving and parking anywhere!
- Children (including toddlers) should not ride bikes or scooters on school premises.
- Only assistance dogs are allowed on school site
- We are a smoke and vape free site
- If you need to get a message during the day to the class teacher or your child – please call the school office as teachers may not check their Dojo account during the day.
House Assembly
This week started with a whole school assembly all about our Houses – something that we are really proud of and which unite our school. Last year, Everdon were crowned House Champions and the year before Whittlewood took the title, we are all wondering who it will be this year!
Alongside our traditional events such as our Christmas decoration making, pancake race, book and biscuit reading sessions and sports days, we are introducing a few new and exciting events such as:
- an interhouse sports competition for each year group,
- a Spelling Bee and a X-table/number-facts competition.
We are hoping that there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Each house is led by a member of staff and throughout the school you will see a nod to our houses here and there.
House Leaders
- Salcey - Miss Stryjek - Reception
- Harlestone - Miss Parker - Year 3
- Everdon - Rachael (Blue Class) & Sarah (Orange Class)
- Whittlewood - Mr Guilder - Year 4
We are looking forward to appointing our Year 6 House Captains. A prestigious role that they have to apply for and are considerately chosen by the Year 6 teaching team.
Please encourage your child to wear their House Badge as there are often House Points awarded when they do.
Visit from a Boxing Legend
This week we were all inspired by boxing legend and double European Champion Hannah Beharry who came in to visit us on Thursday. The day started with a fantastic assembly and then a series of workshops which the children really enjoyed taking part in.
Hannah Beharry spoke about the challenges she has faced on her journey to become a female boxer and how she has made history by being one of the first women to box for Great Britain. Her story is one of true grit and determination and to succeed against all odds. This linked to our school values of Work Hard and Believe. Thank you Mrs Wardell for organising such inspirational speakers to come to visit us! You can find more information here.
READ, READ, READ, READ, READ, READ
Every day our teachers read to your children. We have chosen our reading books carefully as we are committed to ensuring your children have access to the finest literature. Here are the books that each year group are currently reading:
Reading and sharing books with your child is really important – please try to do it as much as possible. A National Literacy Trust Survey in 2024 found that children and young people who read daily did significantly better in assessments. But Dr Suess puts it best, I think, when he said: “The more you read, the more you’ll know, the further you will go.’
By now, your child should have a reading book and a library book – if you want any advice on reading, or how we teach it at EHPS, please ask your child’s class teacher.
Community and Family-Focused School
We want to be more than just an education setting. We want to be part of the community and are pleased to share these community events:
- Spooktacular 18th October 12.30 - 3pm – SOLD OUT
- Christmas Fayre 6th December 11am - 1pm
- Easter Spring Café 21st March 11am - 1pm
- Summer Fete 27th June 11am - 1pm
We may have other exciting opportunities too and hope that you can join us.
We will also be taking part in the inter-generational project School of Life and working closely with our local residents and council.
That’s it for this week – have a super weekend, whatever you get up to.
Mrs Pennington
