Our Organisation
Our School is organised into age based Year Groups, from the Early Years in Reception, through Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) and then to Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6). We are a Two Form Entry Primary School which means we have two classes in each year group. Within the Specialist Unit there are an additional six broadly aged based classes named after six colours we can sign – Blue, Green, Purple, Orange, Yellow and Red. Each class within the Specialist Unit, links with a Year Group in mainstream and together they can plan for and take advantage of many opportunities to join together for their learning and social times.
EYFS/Reception
At East Hunsbury Primary School, your child’s experience in Year R will be happy, active, engaging, fun and secure. We are extremely proud of the Early Years’ Learning environment we have created and the many inspiring and exciting learning opportunities and experiences on offer for our youngest pupils. All are designed to support their development, care and learning needs. This is a very important stage as it helps your child prepare for their future learning and successes.
Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and Year 2)
The curriculum in Key Stage One places great emphasis on developing the whole child academically, physically, creatively, socially and emotionally. It is very important that the children become confident in the key skills of Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Speaking and Listening. But the children’s experiences should not lose their vitality so we follow a very engaging Curriculum with many cross-curricular opportunities, creative experiences and “WOW” celebrations. We want children to be excited by their learning and discover their interests, talents and strengths.
Key Stage 2 (Year 3, 4, 5 and 6)
We continue our Curriculum through the school and into Key Stage 2. This stage is where the children will become more independent, develop key learning to learn skills to equip them to become lifelong learners and prepare them for the next phase of education. The emphasis on the core subjects continues but our broad and enriched curricular and extra -curricular opportunities seek to ensure that children can discover and explore their individual interests and talents before, during and beyond the school day. Excellence and enjoyment for all!
