Dear Families
Well, can you believe it? We have reached the half-way point of this half-term already and, once again, the time seems to be whizzing by. Learning and laughter continues throughout the school and the work in the books is growing beautifully.
Assemblies
This week’s Monday assembly continued to focus on the British Value of democracy and we looked at the difference between local governments and a central Government. We also talked about what matters to the children and ways to get contact with their local councillors etc if they should wish to share their views. Again, we discussed the positives of living within a democratic society. Click here for East Hunsbury Parish Council Website – you might want to take a look at it with your child.
Once again, at the end of the newsletter, I have included some parent information about British Values and their importance in our curriculum. A question you may want to discuss with your children, following on from this week’s assembly is:

Saints Sustainability Foundation
Also, this week we have had a brilliant assembly led by Craig from the Saints Foundation, who looked at sustainability and ways in which we can protect our environment. They talked to us about the work they are doing and ways in which they help the environment e.g. by washing their kit at a cooler temperature, walking to matches and recycling water bottles. This got the children really thinking and considering their role in creating a sustainable world in which to live.
Northampton Town Football Club - Green Football weekend
Talking of sustainability – did you know that Green Football Weekend is nearly upon us? Families can help NTFC score goals for Climate Action during this national competition. Last year, they did fantastically well finishing 9th out of 72 clubs and they want to do even better this year! Can you help?
If you would like to participate, all you need to do is sign up using this link and create a team for you or your family team and then select Northampton Town as your club. You then have from Thursday 18th January to Wednesday 7th February to score as many goals by doing Green activities and uploading your evidence to the platform.

Also, on Saturday 27th January NTFC are hosting a Green Football Weekend Game at Sixfields Stadium. They will be doing things such as a Wombles Litter Pick around the stadium ahead of kick off, running a range of activities for families, fans and children to take part in to win prizes as well as learning how we can be more sustainable in our environment. The players will be taking part by wearing Green Football Weekend t-shirts and armbands in support and to raise awareness. They will also be taking part in the new Veg Wedge Challenge!
Sharing and taking part in events such as these are all part of our Our World Education team and our commitment as a school to making our world a better place.
Debating
Some of our Year 6 pupils did a fantastic job at the Noisy Classroom Primary Debating Competition at the University of Northampton. They had to consider their arguments for and against a motion and use the skills of discussion, reasoning, debating and rebuttal to produce a valid argument. Well done Year 6.
Keeping you up to date
We do like to try and keep you up to date with what your child is learning via our half-termly curriculum maps and weekly Dojo posts. However, if you ever do want more information about what your child is learning please do not hesitate to contact their class teacher or phase leader.
Talking of phase leaders…
With Mrs Hayhurst leaving us on 30th January, please note that Mrs Kelly Roberts will oversee our fantastic Early Years provision and Mrs Lindsey York will look after our brilliant KS1 (Years 1 and 2). Both have vast experience in leading these phases so I know that they are in very safe hands. Therefore, as of 30th January if you do have a question or matter you want to raise, the following staff are your Phase Leaders - Mrs Roberts (EYFS), Mrs York (KS1), Mrs Fenton (Years 3 & 4) and Mrs Heavens (Years 5 and 6).
Walk in Wednesday
On Wednesday, we enjoyed another Walk in Wednesday but this time with a maths focus. It is always lovely opening our doors to our families so that you can share in your child’s learning experience.
Governors
The week ended with our Governors touring school as part of their monitoring and evaluation of the education your children receive. It is wonderful to open our doors to receive feedback about what is happening in our classrooms as we are always striving to move forwards and continually improve the curriculum we provide your children.
