Year 6 Adventures, School of Life , New minibus 03.11.23

Dear Families

Welcome back to Autumn 2… the half term where we lead up to Christmas! But first… we have lots of learning and exciting events taking place.

Spooktacular – thank you!

Thank you everyone who came and supported our Spooktacular event. It was a HUGE success and the feedback was very, very positive so we plan to do it again next year – even bigger and even better! Thank you to all the staff who gave up their time on a Saturday and an extra special thank you to Mrs Normington who had the idea and organised the whole thing!

Year 6 Adventures

Just before we broke up for the half-term holiday, the majority of our Year 6’s went to Caythorpe PGL centre. They had a fantastic time fencing, climbing and singing but also bonding as a year group. Thank you so much to all of the staff who organised it, made the trip happen and gave our children such a memory building, magical adventure. Mrs Heavens, Mrs De Chastelain, Mrs Camplisson, Miss Coombes, Mrs Karakiraz and Miss Mann – you are all brilliant.

Back at school, the rest of the Year 6 children also had a great time. From Forest School cooking, to cake and pizza making, arts and sports. They also had a happy memory-building time.

School of Life

On Tuesday, 6 of our Year 3 children visited Hunsbury Library to take part in our inter-generational School of Life project. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to play games and chat with our local senior citizens. It was lovely to see the interactions and smiles from everyone involved.

Also, over the half term holiday, Mrs Normington, Miss Cunnington and Mrs Pearce joined our children from Gardening Club who took part in our annual spring bulb planting with East Hunsbury Parish Council at the library. Afterwards, they visited Grangewood Park to check on the orchard they helped to plant last year and finally they had a well deserved play at the park! What a super, sunny day it was and thank you to all the staff who gave up their time over the holiday for such a worthwhile project. I hope you enjoy the flowers when they bloom.

All of the above is part of our commitment to work with our local community and as part of our Education Team: Our World.

So much time is given by our staff over the holidays whether it is helping with renovations, setting up events or planning/preparing for new learning – I am very thankful as their headteacher.

Cookery Club

We are really trying to expand our club offer to families and this week saw the start of Year 2 cookery club! Some lovely smells wafted down the corridors after school – yummy!

Mini-Bus

Have you seen the newest member of our family? We have a new mini-bus! We are really excited to get out and about on it. Please wave if you ever see us pass you!

Roofing Works and Car Parking

You will have noticed the scaffolding and roofing works which have started. With support from the Trust, we are thrilled that this much needed renovation work is taking place. The project is due to take between 12 - 15 weeks. Do not park in the car park unless you have a parking pass or disabled badge. We need to work together for the safety of our children. Furthermore, I appreciate the lack of parking is frustrating. This is a common problem for many schools but we must always be safe and treat each other kindly. Leave early and walk if you can. Thank you to the Year 4 families who have been most accommodating with regards to using an alternative entrance. It will all be worth it in the end.

Bonfire Night Safety

It’s bonfire night this weekend! If you are attending or taking part in any events, I hope you have a wonderful, safe time – I have posted the fireworks code on our Facebook page.

Lastly, tomorrow night some of our Year 4 children with Mrs Fenton, Mrs Landeman, Mrs York and Mrs Kelly will be taking part in the Northants Diwali Festival Parade in Northampton Town Centre. Come along and watch! It is a fantastic, community spectacular!

Ms Pennington
