Dear Families
How can it possibly be the end of the first half term already? Time is really flying.
As I reflect back on the start of this academic year, what a brilliant time we have had. From the tallest man in England visiting us to RED October, Harvest Festivals and class assemblies. This week our Year 6 children jetted off on their PGL residential whilst some remained back in school taking part in creative and fun activities! More about how they got on after the holiday.
The children have so much to be very proud of and I am already looking forward to the run up to Christmas.
Meet your House Mates
The week started with a very special set of assemblies! We had our first: ‘Meet your House Mates’ assembly. Each of our houses met to share a book and have a biscuit.
It was lovely to see children from Reception to Year 6 and members of staff all meet and chat. It really is growing our family feel and strong sense of community.
We have so many exciting events planned and watch this space for tokens and badges (coming soon).
Year 4 and Yellow Class Assembly
On Tuesday, Year 4 and Yellow Class held their assembly and what an assembly it was! The quality and breath-taking performances from the singing to the dancing was simply outstanding. Every child taking part excelled and we are all very proud of you! It is wonderful to showcase and share with our families such talent.
Black History Class Assembly
Every class held an assembly about Black History Month. They discussed the theme ‘Celebrating our Sisters,’ and focussed in on one inspirational black female – Nicola Adams who is the Featherweight boxing champion. Throughout the month children have been given the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture.
Author visits - Thomas Taylor and Hannah Gold
On Tuesday, Key Stage 2 had the most fantastic visit from Thomas Taylor – the author of Malamander, Gargantis and many more. The children were enthralled in his stories of becoming a writer, what inspires and what you can find when beachcombing! We got to hold mermaid tears, the scales of a Malamander and he even did some of our very own illustrations (come and see them on parents’ evening). We love providing even more inspiration to our budding readers and writers.
RED October Mufti
The week ended with a fabulous red / book themed mufti! Some of the outfits were awesome! Well done and thank you to everyone who dressed up and got behind our annual RED October. Winners of all competitions to be announced when we return after the half term break. Every penny of the mufti day will go towards more books for our library.
Alumni 1 - Paige Gibson – SHE DID IT! WORLD FULL CONTACT KICK BOXING CHAMPION!
Thank you ALL so very much for your kind and generous donations to support Paige. We are beyond pleased to tell you that she WON GOLD at the World Kickboxing Championships in Canada this week. We are so proud to say that we have contributed to Paige smashing her £500 Crowd Funding target which is now at £1021 (when I last checked) – thank you everyone! Paige is our first Alumni and we could not be prouder of all that she has achieved – we were honoured that she had the EHPS logo on the back of her shirt and really displayed our values of Work Hard, Believe and Be Kind! Well done Paige - WORLD CHAMP!!

This week you received a letter about our Parents’ Evenings. You can book your time by clicking on this link. We have organised for the Scholastic’s Book Fair to be open during both evenings. If you are unable to book an appointment, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher to organise a suitable time. My door and Mrs York’s (AHT and SENCO) will be open if you’d like to pop in for a chat. We look forward to seeing you then.
EHPS Spooktacular Event – Saturday 28th October 2pm-4pm
This week you received a letter all about our exciting Spooktacular Halloween event. We are hoping that if it is successful then we will be running more like this and making it even bigger and better. Roofing – no more buckets to catch the water leaks!
Next week, work starts on our new roof (again, please see a letter sent earlier this week all about it). We are so happy that this is finally happening but it will have implications on our school site for approximately 12-15 weeks (excluding holidays).
Please note the following:
- Parking will be very limited due to 12 spaces being used for the contractor’s compound. Even if you have a Parking Pass, if you are able to park and walk safely, or even car share, you must do this. Be kind to each other and park responsibly. I have sought support from the Police and Highways Agency.
- The Year 4 courtyard will be out of action. Year 4 children will need to enter via the Reflection Room door (near Year 3) and all clubs to be collected from the main front entrance.

School opens on Tuesday 31st October (training day on 30th!) and all that is left is for me to wish you all a relaxing half-term holiday and please keep up the reading.
