Yr 5 Space Centre 01.12.23

Dear Families

The time really is flying… today sees the start of December and in school we are gearing up for the Christmas count down. Please check out the Christmas events dates and calendar for more information about what’s coming up.

Assembly The week started with an assembly led by Mrs Hayhurst which focussed on accepting our differences, We shared the book Super Duper You by Sophy Henn – have you read it? It would make a super Christmas present.

Off to space!

On Monday, Year 5 and Red class visited the Space Centre in Leicester and what a fantastic time was had by all. They loved deepening their learning of space and their behaviour was exemplary! We love enhancing our curriculum through trips and visitors. There more more lovely pictures on pages 3 & 4.

Reading Information Sessions

At EHPS we really want to support our parents with what goes on ‘behind the classroom doors.’

Last week, Miss Stryjek led a phonics information session where parents and carers came to watch a live lesson and then had the opportunity to ask questions afterwards.

And this week, on Thursday night, Mrs Robinson led an information session all about reading in Key Stage 2. Reading is a huge priority for us so please do talk to your child’s class teacher if you would like any more information about how we teach your child to read or how you can support your child with their reading development. PLEASE continue to share a book or two everyday with your child/ren (no matter what their age) as reading really does support their writing and other curriculum subjects – plus it opens up a world of imagination.

Please take note of the following information sessions coming up throughout the year:

  • Y4 Times tables - 18th January 4.30pm
  • Y6 SATs - 30th January 4.30pm
  • Y1 phonics - 22nd April 4.30pm

Lateness

Lateness affects learning. Please note that the mainstream register is taken at 08:45 when formal learning starts. Children must be in school ready to learn by this time – not arriving. We are monitoring our lateness as part of our attendance safeguarding protocols. We suggest arriving no later than 08:40 to allow time to settle in and be ready to learn.

Oh Christmas Tree Oh Christmas Tree…

On Wednesday, we had another very successful House event where children came together to write their Christmas wishes for their future and/or their community. They then decorated a special star to hang on both our school Christmas tree but also on a Christmas tree at St Benedict’s Church (Hunsbury Hill Rd, Northampton NN4 9UG) as part of their Christmas Tree festival which is on Saturday 9th December 2.00 – 4.00pm - why not pop along and pay a visit to see our House Christmas trees in situ.

Festive Fayres

Last Saturday, our amazing choir sang at the East Hunsbury Community Fayre. They were amazing and signed their encore using Makaton. Thank you to all of the children who attended and to Mrs Landeman and Mrs Halsall for preparing and supporting our young singers. It is such an honour to regularly be part of our community.

But this weekend it is OUR Christmas Festive Fayre – and what a treat we have in store for you! So much time and effort has gone into preparing the spectacular. I would like to thank all of the FEHPS team in advance along with the staff who have supported. We will see you tomorrow between 10am and 1pm! Christmas jumpers are advised and please bring your Christmas festive spirit!

Have a lovely weekend and I hope to see you all tomorrow.

Ms Pennington
