Young Voices 30.01.26

Dear Families,

It has been another brilliantly full and enriching week at East Hunsbury with lots of opportunities for learning, reflection and celebration across the school.

As the seasons slowly shift have you spotted any snowdrops yet? We often talk to the children about how the snowdrop represents hard work and perseverance pushing through even the coldest and toughest conditions to bloom. It is a lovely reminder that growth and success often come from determination and resilience.

Monday Assembly - Spotlight on Sikhi

Our Monday assembly was a very special one as we welcomed Harkirat Singh from the Sikh Education Service who led a fascinating and engaging session exploring the worldview of Sikhi. The children were captivated as they learned about its values beliefs and the importance of community and service.

Harkirat then went and visited Year 4 classes to lead engaging workshops which supported their RE & World View lessons.

As a school we believe it is vital for children to learn about others so that they grow into tolerant well-informed and kind citizens. Understanding different beliefs helps us work together to create a world where everyone feels respected and valued.

Tuesday - Young Voices Choir Trip

On Tuesday, our choir headed off to Young Voices in Birmingham and what an incredible singing experience it was. They sang in a huge arena with nearly 6,000 other primary school children. The atmosphere was electric, the singing was spectacular and the children were absolutely amazing. It really was such a vibe. Connie Talbot headlined the show and she was such an inspiration to the children. Read her story here. A huge thank you to the staff who gave up so much of their time rehearsing organising and supporting the children. These opportunities would not be possible without their dedication and enthusiasm.

Thursday - Parliamentarian Meeting

Our pupil parliamentarians met on Thursday and had thoughtful and mature discussions about what children need in their classrooms to support learning. They also began talking about what makes us safe.

Friday - 52 Lives Kindness Workshop

On Friday, children in Years 1 to 6 took part in a 52 Lives Kindness workshop focusing on empathy compassion and the power of small acts of kindness. The morning began with an interactive kindness presentation followed by classroom-based activities where children worked with their teachers to explore and reflect on kindness. The session concluded with a debrief and wrap-up in the school hall. It was wonderful to see how engaged and thoughtful the children were and we look forward to seeing how this experience continues to inspire them.
