Yes I can 13.09.24

 Dear Families

That’s the end of our first full week back and it has been an amazing week!

On Monday, we welcomed our new children into reception and we are amazed with how brilliantly they have settled in. We hope that our families feel supported on this important journey and we are looking forward to seeing them grow and learn throughout the year.

Last week, we had an assembly every day. On Wednesday’s assembly we learnt about ‘Finding our Greatness’ and launched our Proud Points.

On Thursday, we talked about why we come to school, how our behaviour in school is really important and read the book Bottled. It is a book we have read before but I wanted to share it as it teaching us all about not bottling up their emotions.

Then, on Friday we explored the phrase: ‘Yes I can!’ Inspired by this video from the Rio Paralympics and read the book: The Girl Who Figured it Out, which is the inspirational true story of Minda Dentler, a paralyzed orphan from India who went on to be the first female wheelchair athlete to complete in the Ironman World Championships.

This week, our assembly was focussed on the Leadership Roles we have in school and how to apply for them. We want to grow our future leaders and know that pupil voice is a huge part in shaping the direction and success of East Hunsbury. Our Leadership roles this year are:

  • Reading Ambassadors (Years 2-6)
  • School Ministers (Years 1-6)
  • Maths Ambassadors (KS2)
  • Kindness Ambassadors (Years 2-6)
  • Playleaders (KS2)
  • House Captains (Y6 only)
  • Digital Leaders (KS2)

Apart from the minster role, where children must campaign to be voted by their class, all of the other roles are done via an application form. I am looking forward to sharing with you early in October who are leaders are!

Summer Reading Challenge

WELL DONE to all of the children who took part in the Library’s Summer Reading Challenge this year! It lifted my heart to see so many certificates and medals come in. GOOD NEWS! The library have extended the competition closing date to 21st September which means you still have to complete it!

Taster sessions and Clubs – CAN YOU HELP?

This week, we have also been running lots of sports taster sessions for our clubs.

This year, we are again hoping to offer even clubs to your children. If you are a parent with a coaching qualification e.g. football, rugby, cricket etc or even a skill like knitting or chess and would be happy to volunteer to run a club for us, please do get in contact with me () so that we can discuss it. All safeguarding checks will need to be made.

Car Park

We are 8 days in and already we are receiving complaints from local residents about driveways being blocked and inconsiderate parking. PLEASE drive and park safely! I am not sure how many times or reminders we can send. It is likely that if things do not improve, we will need to operate a ‘name and shame’ approach by publishing images in the newsletter.

Dates

Last week, we sent out the dates for the academic year – please note the following:

  • Spooktacular 19th October (this year we will have a Pumpkin Carving competition with House Points as Prizes!)
  • Christmas Fair 7th December

Have a lovely weekend everyone. Here is a link to last week’s welcome back newsletter with lots of information in it, in case you missed it.

See you on Monday!

Mrs Pennington
