What have we been doing this week?

In Maths this week we have been…….

  • Partitioning 2 digit and 3 digit numbers into tens and ones using a variety of combinations.
  • Comparing two 2 digit numbers and identifying which is the largest using Place Value knowledge. 34 is the biggest number because it has 3 tens and 23 only has 2 tens.
  • Recording own findings and beginning to explain what they have found out using appropriate mathematical language.

At home you could……

  • Continue to explore mathletics
  • Practice counting on in 2s, 5s and 10,s.
  • Practice 2, 5 and 10x tables.

In Literacy this week we have been…….

  • Identifying the main features of Descriptive Writing.
  • Adjectives (describing words), Nouns (person, place or thing), Similes (comparing eg: as fast as a cheetah, quiet like a mouse) and Prepositions (on, under, below, in the centre, above etc)
  • Everyday Writer’s Rules (what we must include when we are writing)
  • Class Text – Hansel and Gretel by Anthony Browne
  • Handwriting – slider family ZXVWK zxvwk

At home you could……

  • Look at how an author creates interest and atmosphere using descriptive language in books.
  • Continue to remember to use Kinetic Letters in all writing at home and the Everyday Writer’s Rules
