KS2 Sadness Homework

This half-term we are discussing sadness in our SMILE sessions. Please have a discussion with an adult at home about sadness. Use these questions to help:
What makes you feel sad?
What are the physical symptoms of sadness?
What are the mental symptoms of sadness?
How do national days such as Remembrance Sunday help people to cope with their sadness?
How can you tell if another person is feeling sad?
Do you have any useful strategies to help you feel better when you are sad?

We appreciate that the content of these discussions may be confidential but please comment bellow with any strategies that may help others when they feel sad.

This needs to be completed by 30th November.

    How can you tell if a another person is feeling sad?:quiet, not focusing and looking tired .

    positive ,eat well and take exercise .

  2. What makes me sad is when my two of my friends were being mean to me and weren’t listening to me because they were finding papers or something like that.

  3. When I feel sad I try to think about something happy and forget the thing that made me sad.
    If this shall not work I will get my hand and get one finger and when my finger goes up my thumb I breath in and when it goes down my thumb I breath out .Top tip talk to someone if you feel sad you could talk to a adult or a friend. I can
    tell if someone else is feeling sad because they might be crying or might be at the friendship stop or they might not wont to play with anyone.

  4. I feel sad when I’m left out. When I’m sad my face drops down and I lower myself with tears. I feel lonely and I storm upstairs and hide under my bed.
    I can tell if someone is sad because their face goes all droopy and red.
    Remembrance Sunday helps people think about all the people that have fought in the war for us, like my Great Grandad pap.
    When I’m sad I play with my rabbits Ivor and Bella because they are really fun and I can feed them rabbit cookies. This makes me full of joy.

  5. What makes me feel sad? When my cousin goes back home to Scotland. It makes me cry and I really miss her. I cuddle my toys to feel better and my mum gives me cuddles
    I can tell someone else is sad because they are sitting by themselves looking down. I try to make people feel better by telling jokes.

  6. What makes you feel sad?
    When my family or friends are unhappy, it makes me feel sad. When people do not listen to for whatever reason, this can also make me sad.
    What are the physical symptoms of sadness?
    These can be shown by crying, sad face or being very quiet.
    What are the mental symptoms of sadness?
    Feeling down in the dumps, also feeling as though things are never going to get better.
    How do national days such as Remembrance Sunday help people to cope with their sadness?
    I think this helps as everybody shares their grief together. Also having memorials as this keeps their memory alive.
    How can you tell if another person is feeling sad?
    I can tell if another person is feeling sad if they have their head down, being extremely unhappy and not themselves. Not joining in with any fun activities.
    Do you have any useful strategies to help you feel better when you are sad?
    I like to meditate in a quite room and clear my mind of things that may be making me feel sad at the time. I would then try and carry on as normal.

    • Wow Jack! This is an amazing answer, I love the idea that you use meditation to help yourself. How could your friends help you to feel better when you are sad?

      • My friends would take me to the calm corner or at lunch break take me to Mrs Key’s room to play games and take my mind off of what is making me sad.

  7. I feel sad if I am on my own in the playground. You can tell if somebody is sad because they might be crying or not talking to anyone. Finding people who will tell you a joke will make you feel better or talking to someone to cheer you u or a teacher. Poppies are a way of remembering if someone you know died in the war because it makes you think of them.

  8. Dilan said he feels sad when his friends are unkind to him he feels sad so he would play with his friends who are always kind to him and make him happy.

    I know if someone is feeling sad because there face looks sad.
    When you feel sad you should think of something happy to make you feel happy again.
    All my friends at school always make me feel happy.
